The Messenger of God and His Attitude towards the Hypocrites

The article attempts to answer the question how the Messenger of God, peace be upon him and his Household, treated the hypocrites of his time. First the meanings of kafir (infidel), fasiq (evil-doer) and monafiq (hypocrite) are clarified and the difference between each one is shown and then light is shed on the ways which the Prophet followed versus the hypocrites. The results of investigation show that the Prophet resorted mostly to different ways of forgiveness and tolerance, but he took firm positions when necessary. The Prophet regarded the hypocrites as enemies living inside the Islamic society and treated this domestic problem as a social and psychological phenomenon. So he did not take political or military positions in this regard. The Prophet concentrated on marginalizing the hypocrites, and thus the social security of the Islamic state could be preserved.
