"Solidarity" in Islamic thought enjoys a special position in continuity of the prophetsʹ mission and that of the impeccable Imams. Imam Ali considers solidarity as the bounty of the Prophetʹs mission, among whose consequences are eliminating hostility and creating brotherhood. In his view, disunion leads to the annihilation of dignity, and solidarity leads to the poring of Godʹs blessings. He considers solidarity and implanting justice as two factors complementing one another; and he himself accepted rulership to realize these two important factors; in addition to reinforcing the judiciary system and selecting special persons for the office of judgment, he would control his governors carefully.
Imam Ali held that paying attention to peopleʹs feelings and their just voices is one the social and tangible factors preparing the ground for human solidarity. He enumerates God, the Prophet, Imam and the leader, Quran and the law among the spiritual factors of solidarity, stressing on the role of the leader in this regard. He also regards disbelief and divergence from truth, secularism, toughness, infringement, domination of tyranny, and the inner filth as the major factors of disunion.
