Saʹsaʹa bin Suhan, the Eloquent Orator of Amir al-Mumenin (A)

Saʹsʹa bin Suhan was from the Banu Abd Qays clan and one of the most intimate companions of Imam Aliʹs. This intimacy was to such an extent that Imam would take him as his witness in his endowed properties. The shii Rejalis (those scholars who study transmitters of traditions) regard him as one of the Abdal (= the elect). Saʹsaʹa like his brothers, Zeyd and Seyhan, enjoyed extraordinary eloquence in his lectures, to such an extent that he was admired by Amir al-Mumenin, himself the great eloquent lecturer, who called Saʹsʹa the "eloquent and able orator". Saʹsaʹa made ultimate use of this ability in favor of Imam in early years of Imamʹs reign. Having special confidence in Saʹsʹa, Imam Ali sent him as his own vicegerent to encounter Muʹawia and negotiate with him in several occasions. These occasions of encounter with Muʹawia went on after Imamʹs martyrdom and Saʹsʹa was among those shias whom Muʹawia hated much. He passed away in 56 A.H. for an unknown reason.
