Evolution of Peacekeeping in United Nation: Peacekeeping, Peacemaking, Peacebuilding

Lack of materialization of UN charterʹs provisions concerning collective security and necessity of responding to threats to international peace and security arising from international and interanl conflicts gave birth to "Peacekeeping" concept. In the framework of this concept missions mainly of a military conbination were deployed to stop conflicts temporarily and provide a suitable atmosphere for negotiations of peace agreement, In this content restoration of peace was only a prtial step in the long and difficult way to peace and "peacemaking" was born as another step in this way. In Peacemaking, concentration was upon resorting to diplomatic means for persuading the parties concerned to stop hostilities and concluding peace agreement. But neither peacekeeping nor peacemaking was able to prevent the recurrence of hostilities and coflcts. Thus concept of "peacebuilding" came to exstence, concept which is a last link of transition chain from war to peace and reflects the UNʹs attention to roots of occurrence of conflicts, emanating from new approaches to peace and security i.c "culture of peace" and "human security".
