A critical study of Salafian formalism in interpreting the allegoricals of Divine qualities

The allegorical verses dealing with Divine qualities have always been critically focused on in the history of Islamic thought. Of two general approaches, rationalism and formalism, in the field, the followers of ibn Teimiyeh, Salafiyeh, have severely agreed with the latter as true Islam and called those of the former heretic. The paper, being found on Salafian essential sources, has given a new account in five paragraphs: negation of the approach of symbolic interpretation and of consignment for Salaf, formalism in perceiving the holy Qoran, not using figurative expression in the meaning of verses, traditionally supporting formalism in the verses dealing with Divine qualities and the ways for formal interpreting without any anthropomorphization, including negation of quality when qualifying God, distinction between interpretation and symbolic interpretation and analyzing the concepts in common with human being. The paper has concluded that the claim for negating symbolic interpretation and consignment is not complete, to agree with figurative expressions in Qoran does not oppose its formal authority, the supporting traditions of Salafiyeh, in spite of textual and issuance difficulties, are themselves exposed to symbolic interpretation and finally one can claim that their methods would not be in agreement with the ways of interpretation taken by them and actually they are in need of symbolic interpretation.
