A Comparative Study of Human Figure in Harat Miniature and Qajar Painting

The Iranian painting has a human-oriented feature in its totality; a sort of Humanism which is bound with the Islamic-Iranian human-oriented mysticism and is basically identified with it. Therefore, it is very significant to study the value criteria of such art with its human- oriented feature due to the study of human figure as a distinguished pattern. The present study first approaches value components of Iranian miniature by analyzing human figure as an indicative and distinguished variable. Then, a critical review is made on the Iranian painting of this period by studying this visual element in the classic pattern of the Iranian painting (Harat Miniature) and comparing it with the Qajar painting in an analytical-comparative method. In addition, the indisputable supremacy of human figure in Qajar painting is studied through a structural analysis while a comparison is also made between sample works of each period. Moreover, the consistency or inconsistency of this figure in accordance with the special originalities of the Iranian classic miniature as a dominant element in Qajar painting is also examined.
