The Evaluation of Iranian Library and Information Science Weblogs in terms of Validity Criteria

As widespread modern communication media, weblogs are among the most influential ones in disseminating personal and group opinions and thoughts, whether in general or special areas. Like any other communication media, it is essential to take account of validity criteria, when creating and maintaining weblogs. This communication attempts to investigate a random sample of 100 Iranian LIS weblogs hosted on BLOGFA, in terms of their attention to the criteria. The results reveal that LIS weblog managers are blogging under their real names. They explicitly mention their specialty; however, their affiliations are most frequently unknown. The results also show that latest posts date back to less than 10 days in more than half of the weblogs. implying their relative activity in updating the contents. General and special issues are both treated in the weblogs. Links are of general and special nature, too. All the weblogs use feedback options or communication features. Archives are commonly used; however, search tools are rarely included. Overall, the results reveal that the bloggers take into consideration some of the validity criteria, while overlook some other.
