Explanatory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis of the "Interpersonal Reactivity Index" (IRI) Questionnaire

Empathy means perspective- taking and response to otherʹs emotional status. It has been evaluated in different ways. Utilizing questionnaires to measure of empathy is common in adulthood. In the study "Interpersonal Reactivity Index" (IRI) was administrated on 726 college students among Tehranʹs universities in Iran. They were selected through random sampling. Explanatory and Confirmatory factor analyses have been applied. The results revealed although amount obtained factor through explanatory analysis alike original questionnaire were four factors, items related to emotional empathy measurement ( Personal Distress & Empathic Concern), they as two separated factors in original questionnaire, had stronger interference with each other. With regard to confirmatory factor analysis three model factors has been confirmed better than others models.
