High schools in Tehran are ranked in terms of their studentsʹ academic achievement. To identify factors that influence achievement, a sample of 40 high schools from the top and bottom of the ranking was selected and compared. The sample included 40 administrators, 434 teachers, and 2400 students who expressed their views on factors related to achievement. Results show that in top high schools, the entrance scores are higher, parents are more involved with the school affairs, administrators have more work experience, teachers are more competent, there is more of a learning culture, and the familyʹs socio-economic status is higher.
