Study of effect of aging on wear behavior of 60nitinol

A number of investigations have demonstrated that TiNi alloy exhibits high resistance to wear. In this paper, 60nitinol (Ti-60%wt Mi) was prepared by vacuum induction melting and then was hot worked for 30%. The specimens were aged at different aging temperatures for lh. Wear tests were performed using a pin on disk tribometer under normal loads of 20 to 60N at speed of 0.3m/s for sliding distance of 1000m. The compression test was performed to evaluate work hardening behavior of the samples. The results showed that specific wear rate decreased as the normal load increased. The samples with higher work hardening capacity showed improved wear behavior at higher loads. The wear mechanisms of 60nitinol were observed to be delamination and abrasion.
