چكيده لاتين :
In this study, a three-dimensional numerical model was developed to predict the depth of carbon penetration, from the surface of work piece, in irregular shaped pusher gas carburizing furnace. The profile of the gas velocity and temperature were also predicted. The mathematical model was based on the steady, three-dimensional laminar transport equations describing the conservation of mass, momentum, heat and species. These equations were discretized using a control-volume based finite-difference (CVFD) method over a non-orthogonal boundary-fitted coordinate (BFC) domain. The discretized algebraic equations were solved numerically using a semi-implicit method for pressure-linked equations revised (SIMPLER) algorithm. The validity and the accuracy of the numerical model developed in this study were verified by comparing the predicted results from the model with the experimental data of the carbon penetration depth reported in the literature. It was found that the predicted results were in good agreement with experimental data.
