Just as different sects have arisen within Islam - as in any other religion - there have arisen different branches within these very sects .Shiʹa is one of the Islamic sects within which different branches have arisen, such as Jaʹfari, Zaydi, and Ismaʹili .Bohra is a one of the branches of the Shiite Ismaʹili sect. Since Bohra is an unknown name to many educated persons, even to those studying in the fields of history and sects, the present article is seeking to deal with introducing Ismaʹilism from different angles.
Although Bohra branch of Ismaʹilism and other Shiite branches are far from being an authentic Twelver Shiʹism, they should not be overlooked; rather, there may be a prepared ground for unity between them and the Jaʹfari Shiʹism by a precise identification of their intellectual and doctrinal viewpoints .The present paper has been written with such an approach .
Bohra is the name of an Indian branch of Ismaiʹlism, regarded as the Indian extension of Mustaʹlawwiyya branch .Bohras are scattered throughout the world, especially India, Egypt and Yemen .They have peculiar beliefs and rituals in addition to many commonalities with other Shiʹi sects, especially Imami Shiites. They are politically inactive, but economically very active .Establishing charity foundations and institutions throughout the world has heightened the prestige of this minority.
