After the discovery of oil in the region surrounding Masjed Suleiman, which served as the Bakhtiari winter-quarter, the relationship between the British government and the Bakhtiari tribal leaders, which had started under the reign of Mohammad Taqi Khan Chahar-Lang, entered a new phase. Prior to that, however, the Khans had already signed an agreement with the DʹArcy representatives in 1905. The discovery of oil strengthened both sidesʹ enthusiasm for the continuance of the relationship. Despite this enthusiasm however, the drift between the Khans and the Syndicate of Privileges, which later was named the Iran- Britain Oil Company, continued to grow. Issues such as the oil share of the Khans, their profit, the preservation or security fees, and the sale of land to the Oil Company dominated this drift. All in all, the friendly relations between the Khans and the British authorities remained intact until Reza Shah Pahlaviʹs rise to power. The relations between the Khans and the British government with regards to oil are investigated here with the help of historical texts and resources.
