Hafez and Ibn Yamin

Hafez is aware of his precedent and contemporary poetry. Historically speaking, he lived towards the end of the 8th /14th century, i.e. at the end of the poetry traditions. He had before his eyes a collection of poetry tradition produced in Persian poetry, before his time. His artistically utilization of the ancient literary heritage gave him an opportunity to promote his poetry to an excellent position. He makes slight changes in the form and content of the poetry written by other poets, thus, manages to create a more brilliant theme and rhetoric. One of the most important parts of Hafez studies deals with his susceptibility to the poetry of others on which lots of articles are written by Hafez experts, though they seldom have talked about Ibn Yamin and his influence over Hafez. Ibn Yamin died 23 years before Hafez and there are evidences indicating Hafez knew his poetry. The article focuses on Ibn Yaminʹs influence on Hafez in three areas: diction, synthesis, and imitation.
