A review on Biodiesel Production Processes

Biodiesel fuel is a source of renewable energy which is produced from vegetable oils or animal fats and represents a promising alternative fuel for use in diesel engines. It is a biodegradable, nontoxic and environmentally friendly fuel. Various methods have been reported for production of biodiesel such as pyrolysis, microemulsification, and trans esterification (chemical and enzymatic). Biodiesel is industrially produced via chemical process by using a strong base as catalyst. Processes for biodiesel production, with special attention to transesterification, have been reviewed in this article.
