The Only Persian Text by Moayyed al-Din Shirazi

Bonyad e Taʹvil by Moayyed al-Din Shirazi (c. 387-470 AH), the well-known Ismailite summonen is considered as the only Persian translation of Asas al-Taʹvil by Qazi Nuʹmari Maghrebi (d. 363AH). The two later manuscripts of the translation survived were formerly kept by the Ismailite Communities in India. The attribution of this text to Moayyed is thrown into doubt by the factors of Moayyedʹs time and the Persian language -- his known works all are in Arabic. Moreover, the attribution of spurious works to the well-known writers is not without precedence among the Ismailite Communities. However, the article provides some reasons to claim the correct attribution of the Persian translation to Moayyed, by analyzing some parts of the text, comparing it with the Fatemid Ismailite cultural traces, comparing it with the Persian texts of the 4th and 5,h/10,hand 11th centuries, particularly with the Ismailite works of Naser Khosrow, the Iranian student of Moayyed. The article includes Moayyedʹs Persian preface and the introductory part of his translation.
