Incidence of Injury in Soccer players of Home and Away Events

In soccer, home advantage has been a very important factor in determining the outcome of game. The main aim of this study was to determine the rate of injury in professional soccer player when playing at home-or away in Iranian primer league. In order to asses injuries rate in home and away teams, 125 soccer matches from Iranian premier league over period 2006- 2007 have been selected and were analyzed using video analysis system. The result of this study showed the rate of injury at away team (58.8%) significantly (p<0.05) was higher than home team (41.2%).injury frequency rates in first ten weeks (3.05 injury in each game) was higher than other weeks, higher number of injuries significantly (p<0.05) happened in predominate side (65.2%) than no dominate side(34.8%). A nonsignificantly higher injury incidence was found for matches lost compared to matches won (p>0.05). Thus it can be concluded that away teams had higher injury incidence than home teams, injury incidence was higher at the start of season and most injury affected predominate side. Therefore these factors must be considered by health professional and team doctor and coaches.
