Calling for Revising the Etymology Section of the Sokhan Dictionary

Sokhan Persian Dictionary is known a partial revolution in the scope of Persian lexicography. Paying attention to scientific aspects of lexicography in a period of time which Persian language has been faced with a serious and real vacuum in this area, such an attention is the most significant feature of this dictionary. Paying attention to the etymology of the entries, as well as using a linguistic corpus to select the entries, attaching importance to the word registers and to the area of words application, furnishing the entries with suitable examples and etc. are the features which make this dictionary take precedence over the available ones. In spite of the attention and importance which have been paid to the selection of the words etymology, some drawbacks are clearly significant. Therefore, this paper tries to study and consider some of them in three subsections.
