Exergy analysis is known as a tool for identification of those parts of process that make the most irreversibility in the system. Distillation columns can be considered as the primary target in heat recovery of the distillation units since they are usually highly energy-consuming units. In this paper, distillation unit of Hasheminejad gas refinery has been simulated by Aspen Plus. It has been shown that the exergy loss occurs mainly in the feed and the eighth trays. Preheating of the feed and using pump arounds are proposals for reducing the exergy loss in this unit. The results show that the best case is the use of feed preheating and pump arounds simultaneously where in this case exergy loss reduces by a factor of 48.33% in the feed tray and 25.61% through the column. Furthermore, heat duty of reboiler and condenser reduces by a factor of 20.85% and 0.015%, respectively, and that of the cold utility reduces by 28.92%.
