Survey on citations and collaboration rate in Feyz, Journal of Kashan University of Medical Sciences, from 2002 through 2008

Background: Citation analysis is one of the quantitative methods in assessment of scientific journals. The present study evaluate citation and collaboration rate for Feyz, Journal of Kashan University of Medical Sciences over 2002 to 2008. Materials and Methods: This Study was Carried Out by citation analysis methods. Data were gathered via checklists and analyzed, descriptively. Individual or group authorship, gender of the authors, number of citations, distribution of the cited sources, language of the citations and their half-life were under focus of this study. Bradfordʹ law was used to specify the core journals. Results: 394 articles were produced by 1333 authors. 31.2% of articles had 3 authors. Totally, there were 6771 citations for 394 articles. Average citation number for each article was almost 17. The highest percent of articles was belonging to English journals. Average half-life of Persian and English citations was 6.8 and 9.6, respectively. Conclusions: Our findings indicated that English journals have an important place in acquisition of information. Through organizing the most usable core journals, medical librarians can help to economize expenses in medical universities.
