A Survey and Comparison of Agricultural Machinery Exploitation in Terms of Economic Situation in Kurdistan Province

Agricultural machinery exploitation is one way of agriculture systems. This study was done to survey and compare agricultural machinery exploitation in terms of economy in Kurdistan province. To achieve this goal, farm machinery providers and operating services in the region were divided in to three groups: private, cooperative and custom operation systems. These farm machinery operating systems were evaluated and compared based on annual use of machines (hr) and annual break down or unavailability of the machines (hr). The economic value of each machinery management and operating system were also calculated for comparison. A questionnaire was designed based on Morgan table and completed for 400 holdings and units in all groups, and necessary information was collected. The results were subjected to the analysis of variance, using SPSS 9.0. Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) employed to performa test of significance between the means. Results showed the annual break-down (unavailability of machine) of 408.83, 349.59 and 390.97 hr with the private, cooperative and custom operation machinery systems respectively. In terms of machinery annual use, the Private, cooperative and custom operation machinery systems had a record of 1484.5, 1572 and 1144.5 hours of operation respectively. The economic value for the annual use and annual break down (unavailability) of the machines were 28.12, 24.74 and 17.33 million Rials with cooperative, Private and custom operation systems, respectively. Results indicated that cooperative system could be introduced as the appropriate method of acquiring farm machinery services in Kurdistan province. The private and custom operation systems were regarded as the next priorities, respectively.
