Tendons and ligaments were studied by different methods such as diagnostic imaging in human, horse, dog and cat as well as in other animals. MRI is the best diagnostic imaging method for evaluating of soft tissue. This method can be informed us about intensity, duration prognosis and method of treatment of the disease. There is ability to diagnosis of the lesions which are not diagnosed by other diagnostic imaging methods. Therefore MRI is the gold standard method for evaluation of pathology of tendons and ligaments. Pathologic changes in tendons and ligaments were showed by changes in size, shape and intensity of the signal in MRI. This study was performed on ten legs (right and left) of ostrich (two male and three female) with the mean age of fourteen months. Transverse, saggital and coronal scanning of the plantar surface of metatarsophalangeal joint were performed by 0.5 tesla MRI units. Anatomical samples were taken by cutting the tendons and ligamens of the joint and taking photographs from transvers sections of them. All data were transferred to computer and thickness, cross-sectional areas and width were measured by Scion image software. MRI results were compared with anatomic results by T-student test statistically. Measuring the thickness, cross-sectional areas and width in the MR images were performed only in transverse plan. comparing the result of this study and other investigation about MRI were showed that MRI is the valuable method in detecting of normal anatomy and pathology of the tendon.
