The Geomorphic and Morphometries of Napag Mud Volcano In the South Eastern Area of Iran

The Napag mud volcano, a cone-shaped hill in the coastal plain of Oman sea and lying west to the port of Chabahar and to the right of "Kahir-Tang road", is one of the most attractive geomorphological phenomena in Sistan and Baluchestan province. It is famous for being the most prominent mud volcano in Iran whose height amounts to 36 meters above the sea level. Because of methane (CH4) gas eruption and the formation of huge bubbles, it seems to be a unique one amongst other mud volcanoes in Iran. The eruption of mud from this volcano usually occurs smoothly, but the outpourings occasionally become severe with eruption of viscous mud in great quantity. In this paper, attempts have been made to compensate for the absence of library sources by utilizing field work, laboratory experiments along with years of experience of and study on mud volcanoes.
