According to the invention of various types of ureteral stents,such as Double-J, and Zebra stent(which is introduced recently),we decided to compare the effectiveness of these two types of stents after Trans¬urethral lithotripsy(TUL).The aim of this study is to compare between three groups of patients,including patients with Double-J,patients with Zebra and patients without ureteral stent,in the point of stone excretion,urinary symptoms and flank pain after TUL.Pneumatic TUL was done without any ureteral mucosal injury on 96 patients who were admitted with distal ureteral stone,greater than 5 mm.At the time of admission, these patients had irritative urinary symptoms(frequency,urgency and dysuria)and flank pain ,but didnʹt have fever.All of them had stone residue following TUL.Then randomly,DJ stent in 32 patients,Zebra stent in 30 patients was inserted and 34 patients didnʹt have any stent. All the patients received prophylactic antibiotic until removal of stent. Stone residue excretion was evaluated by KUB in days 1,14 and 28 following operation.Duration of operation,urinary symptoms,flank pain and fever following TUL, were also compared between these three groups of patients.Irritative urinary symotoms following TUL,had the most frequency in zebra stent group,and the least frequency in DJ stent group .Flank pain following TUL had the most frequency in group lacking stent,and the least frequency in DJ stent group.Frequency of patients who excreted stone at the first day following operation was significantly more in DJ stent group than group without stent,but didnʹt have significant difference with zebra stent group.Overall frequency of patients,who excreted stone residue during study time(4 weeks),in zebra stent group was more than other two groups(p<0.05);but there was no significant difference from this point of view between DJ stent group and group without stent.Stent presence by itself doesnʹt necessarily help to stone excretion,but the type of stent is important,which in our study zebra stent was superior to DJ stent and lacking stent.In addition, presence of stent by itself doesnʹt lead to irritative urinary symptoms follwing TUL; but the type of stent is important,which in our study zebra stent caused the most and DJ stent caused the least urinary irritative symptoms.Finally,stent presence reduces flank pain after TUL,and DJ stent had the most effectiveness in this view.
