The isolated and infertile nature in the borderline regions, especially Irans mountainous and desert area, due to lack of welfare and the required incentives for life has been always the source of political, economic and security problems for the governments in charge. Potential inabilities in production, unemployment, low income rate, not having access to primary needs, poverty, security-political problems, water shortage, lack of hygienic, medical and educational centers, inadequate roads, bad climate conditions, and a great number of these issues has led to much development in those people s life; as a result of which the frontiersmen have been faced with various problems and disorders such as immigration, goods smuggling, insurgence and insecurity in these regions. Chief among the most important issues for every country is security in the borderline cities and the necessity for establishing and retaining it. Undoubtedly, controlled borders and borderline cities free of tension and crisis play a key and determining role in establishment of security and practicing the government sovereignty in every country; and while preventing domestic and foreign enemies abuse and interference, planning for supplying sustainability and preventing its imbalance seems to be critical and essential for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Borderline regions are considered to be one of the sensitive points in the country. Identifying the impact of social, cultural, political and economic factors on the security of these regions, is among the most essential points in understanding the security vulner abilities to prevent any sort of anti-security tension and actions. This article aims at reviewing security vulner-abilities with respect to the existing status of borderline regions and surveying
the icuoUllii and factors involved in these regions and the challenges ahead of
I security. The authors of this paper believe that the challenge ahead of security
in these regions originates from disapprobation from economic activities. This factor has led to enhancement of unemployment rate which in turn has led the frontiersmen to get into smuggling goods in order to lead their life. The whole economic issues and problems in the region have not only prepared grounds for committing crimes and illegal commutations in the borderline region, it has also caused security consequences and has led to occurrence of some problems and threats in establishing order and security in these regions. Economic activities such as establishment of local malls in the borderline regions has managed to improve many welfare and social variables like direct and indirect employment opportunities, job motion on the part of frontiersmen and income enhancement and supplying their needs; however, establishment of local malls and creating jobs for them has not managed to reduce the number of peasants who immigrate to cities. Meanwhile, it has considerably mitigated the control rate over the unofficial economy of the region. Although these malls have managed to create minimuni relative economic security, unfortunately they have not considerably contributed to social security indices in the region.
