The effect of Parental violence on children s tendency toward addiction

According to the research, the processes of addiction are influenced by parental behaviors. This study examines the effects of parental violence on the tendency of people toward addiction- people referred to addiction treatment centers in Tehran city in comparison with normal group. This is a quasi-experimental design in which one hundred addicted persons that registered in those centers were compared with a hundred normal people based on simple random sampling. Questionnaire is used for data gathering. Testing hypotheses is done according to t-statistics and descriptive statistics.Results show that parental violence affects childrenʹs tendency to addiction (confidence level- 0/0 %). The dimensions of violence, physical violence with confidence level 0/ 0%, sexual violence with confidence level 0/0 %, economic violencefconfidence level -0/36 %) were not significant. Social violence (confidence level of 0/36%), and psychological violence (confidence level = 0/ 89 %) were not significant too . The results show that parental violence as a harmful factor leads to increasing of peopleʹs tendency to dnig addiction. Therefore, family therapy and awareness can be effective in this case.
