A Glance at Horse and Horse Riding in Iran

Although the background of Iranian sports has been covered by the dust of history, the scholars have always tried to find the origin trough texts and manuscripts. Among ancient Iranian sports horse riding is a prominent one. In this study we find out that horse is a very useful animal famed for its speed, dexterity and sharpness which has played an important role in individual and social life. Iran is one of the old civilizations that has kept and looked after horses. In this research, first, we talk about the beliefs of ancient Iran about horse, horse riding, horsemen and horse symbolism in the belief of Iranians and other nations.
