The Relation of Religion and the State in Modern Age (Safavid and Qajar Periods)

The present article is seeking to study the relation of religion and the State as well as the mutual influence of these two factors in Safavid and Qajar periods. Investigating this issue, the writer concludes that after Iraniansʹ conversion to Islam, the Iranian society moved gradually towards Islam; this movement accelerated just when it was able to attract the politics to form an association with it. When religious scholars won cannily the assistance of politics (without however being absorbed by it or owing to it), they were able to diffuse the Shii culture throughout Iranian society.
