The article is the abstract of the book "The Mystery of Capital: Why Capitalism Triumphs in the West and Fails Everywhere Else" written by Hernando de Soto. This book fills the present gap in economic and legal literature about the meaning of ownership, and its role and importance in industrial development and in the developing societies. One of the main points of this article, is a very interesting comparison of the trend of development in the developing countries, with that of the countries in the West during the past 300 years.
