Decomposing the Earthquake Record Using Discrete Wavelet Transforms

Discrete wavelet transform is a class of wavelet transforms. In this method, the original record are passed through two complementary filters and emerged as two signals. The low and high pass filters are used for decomposing the earthquake record into two parts. The first part contains low frequency of the record, and the second contains its high frequency. The low frequency content is the most important part and therefore is used for decomposition. In this paper a number of earthquake records are decomposed. It is found that during the reconstruction, the error is negligible.
