Syllabic structure of Persian and deletion process

The present study offers an Optimality-Theoretic analysis of the syllabification in Modem Persian. It argues that the proposed syllabifications fall out from universal markedness constraints, faithfulness constraints and a language-specific ranking. Then, of the different phonological processes, deletion will be discussed in colloquial Tehrani Farsi. In addition to the universal constraints, the analysis of deletion requires several language-specific constraints and a suitable hierarchy, which are presented in this paper.
