چكيده لاتين :
In this paper the artificial neural networks (ANNs) are used as a data processing technique for detection and recognition of thunderstorms in mid latitude regions. The Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-B aboard National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrator (NOAA) polar orbiting satellite and ground based measurements are constituted two types of data, which used in this study. Because of the high spatial resolution and less interaction with clouds, the AMSU-B data are very useful for thunderstorms identification. The results of thunderstorm identification with the ANN show consistent improvement over comparable discriminate analysis. These results also show that the AMSU-B measurements alone had potential of detection of meteorological events in general and the thunderstorms in particular and therefore, are very useful for regions, such as Iran where limited ground stations are available
