In this study, the self-propagation high-temperature synthesis (SHS) for the formation of MoSi2 in the presence of aluminum was investigated. For this purpose, test specimens with nominal compositions including (Mo+2Si) with stoichiometric ratio and (Mo+2Si) + 5wt% Al were employed. Also for determine of effect of presence of aluminum on MoSi2 formation by SHS each of the different samples was tested for SHS under air atmosphere. In the next stage, the products obtained from this process were studied for their microstructure and phase analysis by SEM and XRD, respectively. The samples also underwent differential 1 thermal analysis (DTA) by the STA device to complete the results and to examine the effect of the presence of aluminum a on the above SHS more precisely. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) studies indicated that the SHS reaction between Mo and Si was done in a more complete manner in the presence of aluminum and aluminum particles were all oxidized. Theoretical computations of adiabatic temperature show that if aluminum is ^ N present in the raw material mixture and oxygen is present in the prevailing atmosphere, this parameter is intensely increased in such a way that the combustion fron temperature.
