Change in the US Defense Policy 1897- 2007.

Although all the countries defense policies undergo a process of enduring changes, regarding the great powers such a trend is more envisaged. The main purpose of this paper is to explore the process and reasons of the US defense policy evolvement and changes. From the viewpoint of the author of this paper, developments in technology and changes of international system along with modification of behavioral rules of its actors and also spatial transformation for the great powers are the factors that have affected the US defense policy. Finally it is emphasized in this paper that the tendency of the US defense policy has shifted to preemptive operations. Therefore, it seems possible that the US government resorts to offensive operations in curbing asymmetric threats against itself and around its adjacent regions in the future.
