Rorty and the Distinction between Analytical and Continental Philosophy: An Effort towards Restoring the Kantian Peace.

The article studies Rortyʹs ideas about two main spheres of contemporary western philosophy, namely English - American Analytical and French - German Continental Philosophy. These two philosophical currents, besides their geographical distinction, also differ thematically. Analytical philosophy, influenced by Russellʹs philosophical visions and Wittgensteinʹs linguistic theory, became the British dominant philosophy. Continental Philosophy, especially after the Second World War, confronted with English Philosophy. It represents a kind of cultural and theoretical conflict between British and Continental Culture. To deal with these two philosophical traditions, the article finds out their roots in two modern philosophical currents, "Empiricism" and "Rationalism", which continued until kantʹs time. Kant composed them with in its critical philosophy. Rorty, once again, in his new approach, tried to explain the distinction through the difference between two "disciplined" and "instructive" philosophical systems. In this approach, while disciplined philosophers (Analytical Philosophers) try to achieve the truth, instructive philosophers (Continetal Philosophers) are involved with self-creation. Finally, Rorty regards these two philosophies as completing each other in a liberal society. He tries to restore kantian peace by decreasing the distinction. The author of this article critisizes the validity of Rortyʹs views related to this claim that Continental Philosophy neglects dealing with complicated problems.
