A Comparison between Identity and Stability of Marital Life in Young Couples

The present research seeks to study the generalizability of two Erik Ericksonʹs psycho-social growth stages of adolescence and young adult with Iranian samples. It is an applied research which has a pre-experimental design without a control group. The population of research is all young couples in Tehran with an age range of 18-35 who have married for not more than ten years. The samples, who were selected using non-random sampling, consist of a group of 60 young couples and another group of 60 couples on the verge of divorce. They were assessed using Plock and Rodgersʹ Identity Scale. The result of the research after applying a two-tailed analysis of variance shows that there is a meaningful relationship between the identity of couples with stable life and couples with unstable life(p<0.001 , F=33.066); the difference which can also be observed in men and women with stable and unstable lives.
