A Comparison between Fear of Success, Competitiveness, and Acceptance Motivation among University Students according to their Sex

To compare the fear of success, competitiveness, and acceptance motivation among male and female University students, 50 female and 47 male students were studied as samples, having this supposition in mind that no difference should be observed in above-mentioned variables in the courses which are more male-oriented (e.g. Law) or female-oriented (e.g. Counseling). The female, students of counseling and elementary schools teaching, and the male, students of law, were all selected through non-random purposive method. To assess the research variables, Goodʹs Fear of Success Test, Martinʹs competitiveness against Cooperation Test, and Crown and Marlowʹs Acceptance Motivation Scale were used. The samples were requested to answer these three questionnaires about their educational attitudes and activities. The mean of the variables were compared through t-test. The results showed that fear of success was more in the female than the male and competitiveness was stronger in the female. Moreover, the male students under study needed acceptance motivation more than the female. The last two findings call into question the major part of the previous research and feministic attitudes toward current condition of instructional environments.
