Use of GSTARS Software to Discharge Erosion Sediment of Sefid-Rud Dam

Removing sediment deposits from dams through retrograde erosion is believed to be one of the effective and applied methods. Results of previous studies show that flushing dam deposits of Sefid-Rud by constructing detour channel is a good method for the revival of dams. In this method we constructed a short earth dam on the upstream of the dam. We raised up the surface of the channel and thus aloughed water to flow into the channel. Thus, erosion starts and gradually deepens and washes off the sediment, transfer it into lower gates of dam and is thus flushed through lower open gates and sediments flow out of dam. The purpose of this research was to analyze the operation of retrograde erosion stages in discharging sediment from dam resources of Sefid-Rud in Gilan province. Different theories for estimating retrograde erosion from channels have been studied. These theories are those that used in determining the flushing of unsticky sediments have not been proposed yet. GSTARS software is used in different equations to estimate flushing sticky and non-sticky sediments. By using this software method retrograde erosion in Sefid-rud dam have been analyzed.
