Bacterial contamination of water in selected covered swimming pools in Tehran

Public swimming pools contaminated by microorganisms and substances that transferred into water by swimmers. Swimmers cause many pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, virus, and parasitic protozoa and other pollution to enter into the water through saliva, skin tissue, hairs, cosmetics, sweat and so forth. The swimming pools serve as an ideal habitat for legionella and organic nutritional materials needed for bacteria development are abundant in them. In addition, pools create water drops in respirable size that are capable of transferring legionella to human body. In this study, we gathered samples from 10 covered swimming pools in Tehran in order to evaluate amount of legionella and other bacteria and also to determine the quantity of pH, residual chlorine and tempreture of water. At the moment of sampling the pH and the free chlorine were measured. Results were shown the presence of Legionellapneumophil(2)E.faecalis{5),S nosa(1)>P.mirabilis((1),E.coli(1) in the water samples. Also pH and chlorine ranges were 6-6.7 and 0.75-2 ppm ,respectively.
