The Inefficiency of Impact Factor (IF) in the Evaluation of Scientific Articles

Nowadays, the evaluation of scientific papers is one of the concerns of scientific authorities and scientific circles all over the world. The facile accessibility to the Impact Factor (IF) compared to relatively laborious evaluation of papersʹ contents by specialists, have resulted in the scientific credit of papers being evaluated by the journalʹs IF, in which it is published. Nevertheless, unfortunately, the IF of a journal is affected by various factors which are not related to the scientific value of the article. For instance, one can refer to the journalsʹ scientific fields, the Scientific Citation Index (SCI) coverage, national and personal biases, the journal format, number of authors, number of published paper in the journal and inherent difficulties in IF calculation. Therefore, it seems that specialists and scientists should still performed arduous and time-consuming task of reviewing the content of articles to evaluate their scientific finding as fairly as possible. Whatever presented in this article is a brief account of papers published in international journals with high IF indexes. Therefore, challenging the IF of such journals could not be accused of bearing publication motives.
