Complexities of Culture and Typology of Itʹʹs Studies in Higher Education: A Meta-theoretical and Conceptual Framework

موضوع فرهنگ در نهاد آموزش‌عالي به‌عنوان يكي از عناصر فرهنگ‌ساز جامعه، اهميتي دوچندان مي‌يابد. نزديك به چهار دهه است كه «فرهنگ دانشگاهي» در آثار خارجي جايگاهي ويژه يافته و دانشوران هر يك از منظر خويش به اين پديده پيچيده پرداخته‌اند؛ اما به‌رغم چنين اهميتي، فرهنگ دانشگاهي چندان مورد توجه پژوهشگران داخلي قرار نگرفته و اين امر، فقر شديد ادبيات نظري در خصوص تبيين و فهم هر چه بهتر ابعاد اين پديده را در آثار داخلي درپي داشته كه خود مستلزم بازيابي منسجم آثار خارجي است. در اين مقاله، با هدف جبران اين نقيصه، با استفاده از روش گونه‌شناسي به‌عنوان روشي ممتاز و پايه‌اي در نظريه‌پردازي، ابتدا مطالعات فرهنگي در آموزش‌عالي بر حسب موضوع مورد مطالعه، مورد واكاوي قرار گرفته و در هفت‌گونه طبقه‌بندي مي‌گردند. سپس برحسب پيش‌فرض هر بينش نظري نسبت به فرهنگ دانشگاه، با استفاده از «چارچوب فرانظري» مارتين در سه‌گونه انسجام، تمايز و تقطيع طبقه‌بندي مي‌شوند. نمايان شدن خلاهاي پژوهشي مهم اين عرصه براي مطالعات داخلي و ارايه «چارچوبي مفهومي» براي فهم ساده‌تر و جامع‌تر پيچيدگي‌هاي فرهنگ در آموزش‌عالي، از نتايج مهم اين پژوهش است؛ چارچوبي كه مي‌تواند راهنماي پژوهش‌هاي گوناگون فرهنگي در دانشگاه و مفيد براي مديران دانشگاهي باشد.

The issue of culture, as one of culture-making elements, gains more significance in the institution of higher education. It is about four decades now that the “university culture” has found a special place in foreign works and different scholars have discussed this complicated issue through their own approach. However, despite this significance, the university culture has not yet drawn the attention of domestic researchers. As a result, there is a shortage of theoretical literature in domestic works on recognition and explanation of this phenomenon, which requires an organized study of foreign works. Aiming at eliminating this fault, the present paper is an attempt, through typology, which is a basic method in theorization, to topically review the cultural researches in higher education, analyze and classify them in seven types. In the next step, on the basis of presuppositions of each theory regarding university culture, they are classified in three categories, integration, differentiation, and fragmentation, using the Martin’s “meta-theoretical framework”. The main achievements of this research are: to shed light on the research lacunas in this field in domestic research; and to offer a “conceptual framework” for better and more comprehensive understanding of cultural complexities in higher education. The said framework would be useful for different cultural researches and also for university managers.
