The Lack of Necessity of Suhrawardi’s “Definite Necessary Proposition”

سهروردي در منطق حكمه‌الاشراق در يك نوآوري تمام جهات را به ضرورت برمي‌گرداند. وي جهات سه‌گانه ضرورت، امتناع، و امكان را جز محمول قرار داده و بر آن است كه در اين صورت جهت در همه قضايا ضرورت مي‌شود. از آن‌جا كه بحث از جهت در ديگر مباحث منطقي، مانند تناقض، عكس، و قياس‌ها نيز به ميان مي‌آيد، طبعاً اين نوآوري در اين مباحث تاثيرگذار است. سهروردي بدين نكته واقف بوده و اين تاثيرها را نشان داده است. به فرض تماميّتِ اين نوآوري، اين نوشتار بر آن است كه خواه مراد سهروردي اختصار در بحث باشد يا ضروري كردن قضايا در علوم حقيقي يا برهاني، اساساً نيازي بدين ضروري‌سازي و فرو كاستن همه جهات در ضرورت نيست و اين نوآوري مشكلي را حلّ نمي‌كند. لذا از سوي اكثريّت منطق‌دانان بعد از سهروردي مورد غفلت قرار گرفته است.

In the Logic section of the Hikmat alIshraq (The Philosophy of Illumination), Suhrawardi innovatively makes the three modes (necessity, possibility and impossibility) part of the predicate, thus considering the mode of all propositions to be ‘necessary’. Insofar as the modes are also discussed in other topics in logic such as contradiction, conversion and syllogism, this innovation also influences these topics. Suhrawardi was aware of this and has shown these influences. This article demonstrates that whether Suhrawardi was aiming for brevity in discussion or whether he was intending to make all the propositions of the ‘real’, or proof-based, sciences necessary, there is no need of this reduction of all the modes to the necessary and this innovation does not solve anything.
