Athīr ʾal-Dīn Abharī’s “al-Risālat ʾal-Zāhirah”:An Edition, Commentary and Analysis with a Discussion of the Manuscripts

اثيرالدين ابهري يكي از برجسته ترين منطق دانان دوره اسلامي است كه كمتر شناخته شده است. جستار پيش رو، از يك سو، با تصحيح الرساله الزاهره، يكي از منطق نوشته هاي ارزشمند وي را از پستوي فراموشي به پيشخوان چاپ و انتشار درمي آورد و، از ديگرسو، با شرح و واشكافي و تحليل آن از دريچه منطق جديد، بر گوشه اي از انديشه هاي منطقي ابهري پرتو مي افكند. مهمترين دست آوردهاي اين جستار در مقام بازشناسي انديشه هاي منطقي ابهري بدين قرارند: 1. ابهري قاعده تعدّي استلزام را منتجِ شرطي متّصل نمي داند. 2. ابهري قاعده دليل شرطي را مي شناخته است؛ 3. ابهري قاعده عكس نقيض شرطي را به چالش مي كشد. 4. ابهري بر آن است كه در گزاره هاي حملي، عكس نقيض موافق اعتبار منطقي ندارد. 5. ابهري، همچون منطق دانان ربط، استلزام ربطي را معتبر مي داند، درحالي كه جدليان رقيب وي، همانند رواقيان و پيروان منطق فرگهـراسلي، استلزام مادّي را. الرساله الزاهره بر پايه نسخه هاي خطّي دانشگاه تهران، مجلس، و كتابخانه آيت اللّه مرعشي، به شيوه گزينشي تصحيح شده است.

Athir alDin Abhari is one of the most outstanding logicians of the Islamic period, even though he is less known to contemporary scholars than other logicians. This article, by presenting an edition of alRisalat alZahirah (The Shining Treatise), not only makes available for the first time in print an important text in the field of logic, but also surveys some of Abhariʹs logical thought with an analysis of the text from the perspective of modern logic. The important issues which this article presents are: 1) that Abhari believes that transitivity of implication does not result in connective-conditionals. He mentions and then criticizes the exact proof which is now used to prove this rule; 2) that Abhari was aware of the conditional proof; 3) that Abhari challenged the conditional contraposition; 4) that Abhari, like relative logicians, considers entailment implication to be valid, whereas his opponents, like the Stoics and the followers of Frege-Russellean logic apply material implication. alRisalat alZahirah has been edited using a selective methodology on the basis of the manuscripts of Tehran University, the Iranian Islamic Congress Library, and the Ayatullah Marashiʹ Library
