The Cultural Discourse of Two Revolutions and their Impacts on International Arena (Islamic Revolution of Iran and French revolution)

The Islamic Revolution of Iran is among the great revolutions of the world. The Islamic Revolution of Iran and the formation of the Islamic Republic system in Iran created a new cultural discourse which not only put an end to the inaction and lack of confidence of the Iranian nation but also that of a great chunk of the Muslims. It not only left an impact on the relations between the West and the Islamic countries and Muslims but also brought about change in the discourse of Islamic governments with their nations and Islamic groups. Due to this cultural change the Iranian nation moved from a quasi-modern Western and royal culture towards an Islamic-revolutionary culture with its own specific discourse. Due to this cultural change which can be called a cultural revolution, a new discourse was created which upset the one-sided cultural relations of Iran with the West whose outcome was the consolidation of the hegemony of the Western culture. This was achieved through presentation of the Western culture and production of new literature, political language and culture. This discourse, through reproduction of a new meaning system based on Islam and through identification of Muslims and otherization of the West, promoted its discourse among other nations. The revolution challenged many sociological theories about religion and secularism. The present paper is an attempt to discuss different cultural aspects of the Islamic Revolution and its impacts and characteristics through discourse analysis. Attempts have been made to make a brief comparison between the Islamic Revolution and the French Revolution to elaborate their differences and impacts and the creation of two modern and postmodern discourses.
