Formulating & Assessing Military Strategies Based on Analytical SWOT Method

Formulating and assessing military strategies is a complex process requiring a systematic approach for adequately analyzing factors in internal and external environments. These factors can be qualitative and quantitative. Technological advancements have had a wonderful effect in military strategies: command and control, air surveillance, artillery techniques, armor vehicles, and the like. However, in any case, commanders have no more than a single responsibility, namely to gain victory in war. They should be more resilient in formulating strategies. Due to the considerable complexity of the battlefield for formulating and assessing strategies, commanders need a systematic approach in order to adequately analyze the internal and external factors. This research focuses on the necessity of analytical devices in the battlefield, especially on the basis of operational strategic planning and decision making. For this reason, the use of analytical SWOT method (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) has been set forth as a method for formulating and assessing strategies in the battlefield. Despite the fact that there are applications as related to using analytical hierarchical processes (AHP) in the literature relating to analytical SWOT method, a model with new structure has been developed by Quantified SWOT analytical method in order to obtain the benefits of this approach.
