An analytical investigation of the historical existence and life of mysticism

Mystics and their political status in society is one of the important historical issues which deserve deep and thorough studies. The main point of concern in this study is the investigation and the analysis of the presence of the mystics in the political realm of the country between the fall of the Safavids and the rise of the Qajars (1135-1210 A.H.). Among the issues probed in this study, one can count the attempts of the mystics to resume their previous position and standing as a socio-political power in the study, and the reaction of two powerful institutions; namely, Religion and State, and finally, the initiatives of the mystics in the unstable conditions after the fall of the Safavids. The results of the study indicate that the mystics were capable of maintaining their presence in the social and intellectual developments of this period (Afghan, Afshari and Zandieh eras). Their political activities in this historical epoch were that of an increase from weak to strong presences however, they did not achieve any special success in their activities.
