بررسي اثر محافظتي عصاره گياه خار مريم و ويتامين E بر سميت كبدي ناشي از سديم و الپروات در موش سفيد كوچك

THE PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF SILYBUM MARIUM EXTRACT AND VITAMIN E ON LIVE TOXICITY INDUCED BY SODIUM VALPROATE

Sodium valproate is an effective antiepileptic drug which is widely used in therapy.One of its side effects is liver toxicity. The aim of this study was to verify the protective effects of Silybum marium and vitamin E in hepatotoxicity caused by sodium valproate. In this study the crude extract of Silybum marianum in doses of 100, 200 and 800mg/kg and vitamin E in doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg were orally administered to mice one hour before the toxic dose of sodium valproate (500mg/kg) for one week. The positive control group received toxic dose of sodium valproate (500mg/kg) and the negative control groups received normal saline and seasame oil. On the 8th day, blood samples were taken for measurment of enzyme activities such as SGOT & SGPT and also liver tissues were taken for histopathological study. Results showed that significant hepatoprotection was observed in doses of 800mg/kg of Silybum marianum and 400mg/kg vitamin E. Also it has been observed that the adiuvant dose of Silybum marianum and vitamin E in doses of 100mg/kg were synergistically effective. In conclusion, this herbal extract and vitamin E can protect liver damage caused by sodium valproate in mice.
