The effect of heat treatment temperature on structure and photocatalytic activity of titania powder

Abstract: In this research, the effect of final calcination temperature on structure and photocatalytic activity of titania powder has been studied. In this regard, mesoporous titanium dioxide prepared, in acidic condition, with non-ionic template PI23, based on self- assembly and sol- gel processes. Then the dired samples were calcined at 350, 400, 450, 500 C for 2 hours. The calcined powders were characterized by XRD(low&high). M2-adsorption techniques. The structural results confirmed formation of mesostructure. Structural collapsing, higher crystallinity and less surface area obtained with increasing the temperarue. Finally, photocatalytic tests were carried out with methylene blue. The best photocatalytic activity achieved by the sample calcined at 400 C which proved necessity of balance establishment between structural parameters and crystallinity.
