Among the lab animals, rats (Ratns ratus)have unique specifications and are used more than other animals in the medical and veterinary studies. Due to the fact that, knowing these specifications is of great importance, we decided to compare the humerus and femur length of male rats. 2o healthy male rats of Sprague Dawley specie were bought and transferred to the veterinary facultyʹs laboratory. They were kept for one week in there for environmental adaptation. Then the animals were weighed with a sensitive scale and anesthetized via chloroform. For sample collecting, the right and left humerus and femur bones were separated from muscles and removed to be put in water for some time. The bones were then cleaned with dilute hydrochloric acid and the fat was removed by premium grade petrol. Hydrogen peroxide was used for the purpose of bleaching afterwards. Finally the morphology of humerus and femur bones were studied carefully and the length of each bone was measured. The data was analyzed using SPSS software ( version 16 ). The morphological study showed that the animal is more identical to Mus musculus. Also the statistical results of SPSS software revealed there is significant difference between the length of right and left humerus in the male rats ( p<0.05 ). However, there was no significant difference between the length of right and left femur bones ( p>0.05 ). In conclusion the study indicated that the mean length of the right humerus bone in the male rat ( considering the weight) is a bit more than the left humerus bone and they are not equal in length. This was not true about the femur bones and they were almost equal in length. These results can be a corner stone for future studies and evaluation of the symmetry in other organs.
