The Shintoism Aspects and Their Impact on Architectur of Japanese Shrines

Shinto is Japanʹs primal religion and is integrated with Japanʹs culture, the exact date of shinto as the national religion of Japan is not clear but state shintoism is relatively new phenomenon,started about one - and a half centuries ago in order to unify Japan after the long period of feudalism. It took only a few decades for this artificial state shintoism to get out of control. It has national importance for japaneses. Shintoism is quite unique in style. Therefore Arts and specially architecture were followed by sense of nationalism. Shrines were built to preserve Japanese identities and national religion. There building styles influence by shintoism were continued by Japanese architecture in physical and spatial characteristics. The result of this research and analysis of various cases of shrines and religious buildings indicate that traditional arts and architecture of Japan is directly or indirectly influence by religious ideas and beliefs of shintoism.
